Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock you’ve probably seen someone talking about journaling in social media. But what is journaling and how does it benefit you?

I started journaling because I like to write. I like the act of writing with a pen a paper and I enjoy having pretty pens and notebooks. I had no idea what to write, so I started writing about my day.

Soon after I started researching how to use this newfound ‘hobby’ to change my life.

In this article, we are going to focus on What is Journaling and The Benefits of Journaling.

What Even is Journaling!?

Journaling is sitting with yourself and putting your findings on paper. It is a mindfulness practice that helps you understand yourself better. For me, it takes on a level of self-care. I sit with myself for about 10 minutes in the morning and I set my intentions for the day, I go over my affirmations and reiterate my gratefulness.

Journaling is a simple yet profound and intimate activity to do with yourself. It’s been embraced by many as a self-discovery tool and a key step towards well-being.

Journaling can be seen as a mirror to our inner world and a canvas for our thoughts and emotions.

Benefits of Journaling

#1 It’s CHEAP!

The biggest benefit for me is that it’s just about free. Literally! All you need is a piece of paper or a notebook and a pen or even your phone!

There are no rules to this. Guidance, yes; but there’s not a wrong way to journal. This is something you can customize to your specific needs and preferences.

#2 It’s a Stress Reliever!

One of the most immediate effects of journaling is stress relief! Who doesn’t need some of that in their lives!?

Journaling acts as a pressure valve, allowing you to express and navigate the complexities of your daily lives.

Also, make sure to include gratefulness in your journaling practice. Studies have shown that writing down what you're grateful for or your deepest thoughts can lead to a significant decrease in stress levels.

All around win if you ask me!

#3 It Makes Your Body Healthier!

As if it weren’t enough, journaling can enhance our overall health and well-being!

By writing about personal experiences and reflecting on them, people have reported fewer stress-related doctor visits, lower blood pressure, and an improved mood.

This means that developing a journaling practice benefits the mind AND the body, contributing to a harmonious state of health.

#4 Liberates You from Negativity!

Journaling can be incredibly liberating when you create a space for negative thoughts. Through journaling you provide yourself with a moment of pause, a chance to step back and look at your worries from a distance, reducing their power over you.

This helps us realize that we are not our thoughts; we are the observers of these thoughts!

Make it stand out

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

#5 Emotional processing!

Life can often move at a breakneck pace, leaving little room to process our emotions. Journaling slows you down and gives you the space to engage with your feelings, promoting emotional resilience and clarity.

#6 A Guiding Light!

If you’re looking to make future moves or decisions, journaling can be a guiding light!

It helps crystallize your thoughts and desires, making your next steps more apparent and attainable.

It literally helps you see and visualize your future more clearly.

#7 Unmatched Self-Discovery Tool!

Lastly, the journey of self-discovery that journaling initiates is unparalleled!

It gets you to go deeper into your psyche, uncovering insights and creating a greater understanding of who you are and what you want from life.

In essence, journaling is more than just writing down words—it's a practice of mindfulness, a ritual of self-care, and a dialogue with yourself.

Whether you're a seasoned journaler or a curious newcomer, the benefits are waiting to be uncovered.

So, grab a pen and let the journey begin!
